Playing Environment
Maintenance
Throughout the season the green will require ongoing regular maintenance. There will be occasions when the application of critical sprays could lead to some disruption and access to the Green.
Our Contract Greenkeeper and Club Greenkeeper will endeavour to minimise any inconvenience and will keep members informed of any disruptions.
Under normal circumstances during the week, the Green will generally be ready for play by 10am. Should a member wish to play earlier, please contact our Club Greenkeeper to ensure the Green is available.
On the weekend when early starts are required, the Green will be ready for play by 8.30am.
Informal Games and Practice
At times, when the green is not being used for club, centre and championship events any full playing, limited and associate member is welcome to use it for practice and casual play.
Inclement weather conditions or green maintenance may also result in the closure of the green.
Details of green and rink availability are displayed on a board inside the window of the old Match Room facing the green. This information includes:
-
If the Green is open or closed
-
The direction of play – either North/South or East/West
-
Which rinks are to be used
-
Any other additional information
This information needs to be checked before any play commences.

Care of the Green
Considerable effort in both time and money is incurred throughout the season caring for and improving our Green. It is expected every member will back up the efforts of our Greenkeepers by preventing unnecessary damage.
There will be times when the Green will come under pressure from ‘heat stress’. Continuing to play on it under these conditions can cause lasting damage. If you have any concerns and are unsure if you should play on the Green please contact our Greenkeeper.
Please play your part in protecting our Green by:
-
Avoiding scuffing your feet on the Green.
-
No dumping of bowls on delivery (scuff marks in front of the mat will indicate this is happening).
-
No dropping of bowls on the green, instead place them and place jacks either at the start of play or when preparing for the next end.
-
Use scrims when conditions deem them necessary – take care when placing and removing pins.
-
Observe the ‘no driving’ embargo when conditions deem it necessary
-
Check the Green information board for all notices of playing conditions.
Green Set-up and Clearing
All playing members should assist with the setting up of the Green at the beginning of the day. This involves checking the Green information board for directions of play, the rinks to be used and putting out all the equipment required for the days play. The Club’s flag should be raised.
Similarly, at the end of play please assist in putting all equipment away.
The assistance and co-operation of everyone is appreciated.
