Social and Community
Twilight Bowls
The club holds two twilight community bowls events each season on a Wednesday evening during the months of November and February. It is a time when the club welcomes 16 teams each with 4 players who contest for our much coveted Community Bowls Trophy. So popular at times there has been a waiting list for teams to get involved. All you need are flat soled sports shoes and a smile. We take care of everything else.
During these events the club opens its doors wide to our community at 5.15pm. What unfolds is a fun filled evening with food available, the bar is open, raffles and music which adds to the overall vibe. Games start at 6pm finishing at 7.30pm before the weekly prize giving and social catch up.
We are fortunate to have the support of Nicola from Whitby New World who donates the meat raffle prizes along with Ethan from Wise Wire Electrical who has been a regular participant over the last few years and his willingness to support is indicative of how much he enjoys the game and the connections he is making in the area.
Community
We pride ourselves on playing a central role in the Whitby and wider Porirua community by maintaining strong relationships with local organisations and providing a welcoming space for both sporting and social groups.
We have continued to build relationships with the Porirua City Football Club welcoming them into our club rooms for their after match get togethers, storing playing equipment and strengthening inter-club connections.
Our rooms also serve as a regular meeting place for several community groups including the Whitby Probus Group, Whitby Dance Group, Mana Athletics and a local craft group. We support the Inner Wheel Club of Plimmerton with their major fundraising events by providing the use of our club rooms. In addition the club maintains a supportive relationship with the Whitby Collegiate which helps strengthen the connection with the local youth and reinforces the clubs role by providing a trusted community facility
We are guided by values of inclusion, respect, sportsmanship, nurturing friendships, appreciating volunteers and strong supportive community involvement.
By opening our doors wide to encourage involvement we will stay connected and ensure the ongoing viability of our club.
