Match Committee Role Description

The Match Committee is responsible for the organisation, management and smooth running of programmed club events and club championships (excluding Club Roll Up Days, Galas and Twilight Bowls) in a way that ensures fair play and promotes participation.

 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Run the club championships in the same format as Bowls Wellington run their champ

       of championship events.

  • Run all other club events in the format previously agreed for the particular event

  • Advertise events with a minimum of 3 weeks lead in time prior to the closing date

  • Encourage participation

  • Collate entries, complete and publish the draw

  • Outline dress code

  • Prepare score cards

  • On the day in conjunction with our Greenkeeper or their representative determine if play can commence at the agreed time and if need be agree next steps

  • Communicate any change of conditions of play in a timely and clear manner

  • Prior to the commencement of the competition outline the conditions of play to all participants along with Health and Safety guidelines

  • Record outcomes of games and final results

As the controlling body for an event the Match Committee has the right to alter, add to, or remove any conditions of play due to unfavourable weather and / or special conditions to enable the completion of a competition.

 

For each day of a Club Championship, the Match Committee will appoint a Tournament Manager. The appointed Tournament Manager will be responsible for the running of that particular day and will make such decisions as altered teams, start times for later games, potential weather delays etc.
